Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and ex-Sokoto Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has declared that terrorists operating in Nigeria represent no faith, describing them instead as common criminals waging war on all citizens.
Speaking in Sokoto on Saturday, Tambuwal urged the international community to stop viewing Nigeria’s security challenges through a religious lens. His comments follow the decision by the United States government to designate Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC), over the alleged killing of Christians.
Tambuwal’s statement aligns with the Federal Government’s claim that banditry in the North-West and North-Central zones is driven by socio-economic factors rather than targeting a particular religion. He laid emphasis on Pope Leo’s stance, acknowledging that both Christians and Muslims are being slaughtered indiscriminately by these marauders.
Tambuwal also claimed that in Zamfara, Katsina, and Sokoto, Muslim-majority communities are the primary victims of banditry.
You can’t even go to the mosque or the church safely. So this is not about a particular section of the country or a particular religion. These marauders are common criminals, attacking every soul they come across. It’s not about Bola Tinubu as a person… Any country, America, France, the UK, that can support Nigeria to overcome insecurity should please do so rather than designate us – Aminu Tambuwal
Tambuwal revealed that despite Nigeria spending $1 billion from the Consolidated Revenue Fund to acquire A-29 Super Tucano aircraft, the U.S. allegedly withheld full technical components, which he claims limited their effectiveness in the field.
