Police defuse bomb planted under network mast in Maiduguri, Borno

The Borno State Police Command operatives have successfully defused an Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) that was strategically placed beneath a telecommunications network mast at the Chuskon, Federal Low Cost Area of Maiduguri on Monday, December 15. The operation averted a potential explosion that could have caused severe damage and loss of life.

The Divisional Police Officer, ITE Police Division responded at approximately 1106hrs after a report was received regarding the explosive device. The State Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, immediately directed the specialized Explosive Ordnance Disposal – Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Base 13 team to the scene.

The device, an Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) with two protruding wires, was strategically placed beneath a network mast at Chuskon in Maiduguri. The EOD-CBRN team quickly cordoned off the area, and successfully rendered the device safe in line with standard operating procedures, in order to prevent any potential disaster.

The Commissioner of Police has directed all Divisional Police Officers to patrol and fortify critical public and private assets, to prevent any potential acts of sabotage. The Command has assured residents that the situation is under control and that investigation is underway to apprehend the perpetrators.
