The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) promises to settle the outstanding three months of salary and bonuses owed to Super Eagles Head Coach, Eric Chelle, just as the country races toward the December 11 deadline for naming its final squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
A top official of the NFF confirmed the financial commitment, stating that the payment process is underway despite the delay. Chelle is reportedly owed three months’ salary and bonuses.
According to a source within the NFF explained;
Eric came to see us, and we explained the processes. His money will be paid… we are waiting for cash backing from finance. The money on paper has been paid, and the coach is aware
The source stated that the National Sports Commission had previously made provisions to cover Chelle’s salary until October via a presidentially endorsed support group, aiming to secure stability for the World Cup qualification campaign.
The coach, who led Nigeria to the final round of the ill-fated 2026 World Cup play-offs, has reportedly not lodged an official complaint regarding the payment delays.
Nigeria, which finished runners-up in the last AFCON, is seeking its fourth continental title. The Super Eagles will compete in Group C. Match 1, December 23, 2025 Nigeria will contend with Tanzania, Match 2, which is slated for December 27, 2025, Nigeria will face Tunisia, while at Match 3, December 31, 2025 Nigeria will contend with Uganda.
