President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to embark on a two-nation trip today, Wednesday, November 19, to attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, and the African Union-European Union (AU-EU) Summit in Luanda, Angola.
The G20 Leaders’ Summit, holding from November 22-23 at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, is significant as it is the first G20 summit ever hosted on African soil. President Tinubu was invited by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who chairs this year’s meeting under the theme: “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability”.

The G20 discussions will cover global issues including inclusive and sustainable growth, debt and development finance, disaster-risk reduction, climate action and just energy transitions, food systems, critical minerals, and artificial intelligence.
The summit marks the first time the African Union (AU) will participate as a full member of the G20, alongside the European Union (EU), providing an opportunity for both continents to shape global policy.
After the G20 summit, President Tinubu will attend the AU-EU summit in Luanda from November 24-25. This gathering brings together leaders, innovators, and civil society to discuss areas like inclusive development, infrastructure, the digital economy, the creative sector, manufacturing, and agribusiness.
The Presidency emphasizes that the Nigerian leader will hold bilateral meetings on the margins of the G20 in furtherance of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
