Kano State Governor recruits 400 Mathematics teachers to boost STEM education

‎Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has presented permanent and pensionable appointment letters to 400 newly recruited Mathematics teachers for secondary schools across the state.

The recruitment is aimed towards addressing subject deficits and also improving student performance in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that Mathematics is the foundation of science, technology, engineering and innovation, strengthening this base is key to compete effectively in the knowledge-driven economy.

‎The recruitment program by the state government is also aimed towards addressing the state of emergency in the education sector, which includes substantial investment in teacher recruitment, infrastructure, and school safety.

‎The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, stated that the recruitment addresses subject gaps that have been adversely affecting students’ performance and career readiness, especially in core science disciplines.

Governor Yusuf also approved the employment and deployment of 1,600 watchmen to man and beef up security across public secondary schools, following recent school attacks in the region and in Kebbi State.

‎The Governor commended the Ministry of Education and the Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSSSMB) for conducting a transparent and impactful recruitment process, lending credibility to the new appointments.

‎The Kano State government had previously approved the recruitment of over 4,000 teachers in September 2025 as part of its efforts to restore educational standards and improve the teacher-pupil ratio.

‎Governor Yusuf stressed that education is the top priority of his administration, urging the new teachers to display passion, commitment and professionalism to justify the confidence placed in them. The government believes this investment will to a great measure enhance teaching quality and improve examination outcomes.
