Former Senate President and ex-Governor of Kwara State, Bukola Saraki, has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack on the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) in Eruku town, Ekiti Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement posted on X on Wednesday, Saraki described the incident, which resulted in several residents injured and others kidnapped, as “seriously disturbing news” that has shattered the peace of the southern Kwara community. Saraki frames the security of Kwara as being integral to the national interest. He called on the Federal Government and security agencies to rescue the abducted residents as quickly as possible.
Eruku town, situated in Southern Kwara, shares a border with Kogi State. This location makes it vulnerable to incursions by bandit and terrorist groups who often traverse state lines to evade security forces, creating a persistent security challenge for local communities.
According to reports, terrorists and bandits have successfully displaced thousands of residents across different villages in the state.
Saraki extended sympathy to the victims and concluded his statement with a prayer for the nation;
May Allah (SWT) heal our land and help us defeat all those waging wars against Nigeria
While the Federal Government has deployed troops, the challenge remains in coordinating sufficient military and police resources to effectively patrol across vast rural areas and state borders.
