The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has issued an official denial regarding a viral video accusing the company of collaborating with a third party to distribute petrol via dispatch riders under a scheme tagged ‘FuelUp’.
The company denied its connection with the video, stating that the refinery has no connection with “FuelUp”and currently only distributes fuel to bulk buyers.
Fake! We are not in any way associated with this – Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Communication Officer for Dangote
The video, which circulated online, displayed a customer ordering petrol via WhatsApp and having it delivered to their vehicle by a dispatch rider equipped with a mobile mini fuel dispenser.
The viral video claimed the motorcycle-based fuel delivery service, called ‘FuelUp’, was powered by ‘Dangote Petroleum’. This gained mixed reactions from Nigerians. While some Nigerians lauded the convenience of ‘FuelUp’, many raised safety concerns regarding the transportation of gasoline by bike.
Meanwhile, Dangote has recently focused on its official distribution scheme, which includes the importation of hundreds of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered trucks for direct fuel delivery.
The Dangote Refinery, located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, is one of the world’s largest integrated refineries and is already planning to scale up production from 650,000 to 1.4 million barrels per day (bpd) to meet the growing domestic fuel demand in the country.
