Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has accused immigration officials of repeatedly harassing her after they seized her passport at the airport while she was preparing to travel abroad.

In a video posted on her Facebook page, the senator was seen questioning immigration officers about the seizure of her passport, expressing frustration over the situation.

After serving two years in office, she intended to take a week off for travel, but was stopped without any stated reason. The clip showed the officers making phone calls as Natasha insisted on knowing her offense, while they apologized but did not return her passport immediately.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan revealed this was not her first encounter with such treatment. Previously, it took intervention from an influential individual before her passport was released. She accused Senate President Goodswill Akpabio of directing the Comptroller-General of Customs to block her exit and entry, alleging this was a response to interviews in which she criticised the government’s image.

She emphasized there was no court order supporting the withholding of her travel documents, adding that the legal case once filed against her was withdrawn after President Tinubu intervened, reportedly instructing Akpabio to halt proceedings.

After going live on video calls during the incident, her passport was eventually returned.
