The Senate on Thursday confirmed Dr. Bernard Doro as the new Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, endorsing his appointment with unanimous support after a brief screening session.
The Plateau-born technocrat pledged to ensure transparency and inclusivity in the humanitarian programs of the country.
Dr. Bernard Doro, nominated by President Bola Tinubu to succeed Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, who was recently appointed National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, was thoroughly vetted in a screening that lasted less than 30 minutes. Many senators expressed confidence in his experience and leadership capabilities.
During the plenary session, Doro committed to building an inclusive humanitarian ecosystem guided by impartiality and independence.

Tinubu’s letter nominating Doro was read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who referred it to the Committee of the Whole for immediate consideration, which led to the confirmation of the nominee without objection.
Doro has been into active service for over 20 years with multidisciplinary experience across clinical practice, pharmaceutical management, and strategic leadership in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Born in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State on January 23, 1969, he holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA focused on IT-driven business strategy, and a Master’s in Advanced Clinical Practice. He was an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner with frontline NHS experience working in urgent care settings, walk-in centers, GP practices, and hospitals.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga outlined Doro’s involvement in youth mentorship programs and social impact initiatives both within Nigeria and the diaspora. Satisfied with his credentials, the Senate asked Doro to take a bow and leave, officially confirming his appointment. He is expected to be sworn in at the next Federal Executive Council meeting.
