A tragic road accident on Thursday morning in Ondo State claimed the lives of five people and left two others injured, authorities confirmed. The incident occurred near Oyin Junction, Akure North.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ondo State Sector Commander, Dr Samuel Ibitoye, the accident happened around 9:10 a.m. when a Nissan Sunny car collided with a DAF tipper truck.

The crash involved seven people in total, with casualties including a man, three women, and a female child. The victims’ bodies have been taken to the Federal Medical Center in Owo for examination.

Dr Ibitoye attributed the accident primarily to speeding, warning motorists to adopt defensive driving, especially during the ember months when road accidents tend to increase.

He also stressed the importance of FRSC to educate drivers, particularly tipper operators along the Akure–Ogbese route, to prevent further tragedies.
