A 34-year-old man, Stephen Adamu, has been sentenced to death by hanging by an Ekiti State High Court for the murder of his brother. The judgement was delivered by Justice Adekunle Adeleye today, Friday, October 31, 2025.
Stephen Adamu was arraigned on January 31, 2025, facing a one-count charge of murder for unlawfully killing David Adamu, his brother, in violation of section 234 of the Ekiti State Criminal Law 2021.
During the trial, the prosecution presented six witnesses, alongside the defendant’s statement, an attestation form, and the murder weapon, a knife, as evidence.
The defendant, represented by lawyer S.K. Idowu, did not call any witnesses in his defence. After reviewing the evidence and testimonies, Justice Adeleye concluded that Stephen Adamu intentionally stabbed his brother in the neck.
Prosecutor Funmi Bello emphasized the gravity of the prosecution’s case, stating that the collected evidence clearly demonstrated the deliberate nature of the crime.
