A 23-year-old student at the University of Jos (UNIJOS), identified as David Nanpon Timmap, has been arrested after allegedly killing his colleague, Peter Mafuyai, and burying the body in a shallow grave. The incident occurred in Timmap’s room in Rusau village, Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State.
The deceased, Peter Mafuyai, was a 300-level Banking and Finance student, and the suspect, David Nanpon Timmap, was a 200-level Agriculture student at the same institution.
According to sources, the two friends had spent the day together, playing football and later attending a music recording session before returning to their residence. The sudden nature of the attack and subsequent burial has shocked the local community.
After returning from the studio, Nanpon headed out to get a machete, prompting the other compound residents, who were friends with them, to ask about his intentions. He replied vaguely, saying “he needed it for something”.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the suspect retrieve a machete before striking his friend. The occupants raised an alarm, but the suspect had buried the body before they returned with help.
The motive for the killing remains officially unclear, though a source indicated it might not be unconnected with the music project they were working on together. The UNIJOS administration and the Plateau State Police Command have yet to provide official statements as the investigation is ongoing.
