The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has deployed an artificial intelligence (AI) powered virtual assistant, the “INECTrainingBot”, to enhance the readiness of its personnel for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election on November 8, 2025.
The commission simultaneously began a mock accreditation exercise to test core election technology. The simultaneous mock exercise is aimed at testing the technology under real-world conditions to address potential technical glitches, thereby bolstering public confidence in the transparency of the accreditation and results-collation process.
We are proud to introduce the INEC Training Virtual Assistant, ‘INECTrainingBot’… This tool provides flexible, on-demand access to essential election training, ensuring our team can learn smarter and be fully equipped for their critical roles – INEC
INEC presents the AI virtual assistant as a necessary technological advancement to ensure competence across its vast personnel network.
The Anambra State election is a significant gubernatorial contest in Nigeria, where past elections have been highly competitive and subject to intense public scrutiny regarding procedural fairness. INEC is responding by doubling down on technological reforms.
The introduction of the “INECTrainingBot” on the messaging platform Telegram aims to ensure every election official has access to uniform, 24/7 training. This is crucial for the proper operation of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), a core device used for voter authentication, and the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) Portal, which allows the public to view polling unit results in real time. The goal is to eliminate human error and enhance the credibility of the entire process.
The distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for newly registered voters in the state is concurrently underway, scheduled to run from October 22 to October 26, 2025.
