Colonel Abdullahi Bello (retd), the Gombe State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, died in a motor accident on Friday, October 24, 2025. The fatal crash, which occurred along the Malam Sidi-Gombe road, also claimed the life of his police orderly, Sergeant Adamu Hussaini.
The Gombe State Government confirmed the deaths in an official statement released by the Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli. The late Commissioner and his orderly were returning from Maiduguri, Borno State, where Colonel Bello had participated in the North-East Regional Consultation on the Development of a National Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Reintegration (DDR) framework.
The consultation in Maiduguri was aimed towards establishing plans for addressing the security aftermath of the Boko Haram insurgency, particularly concerning the demobilisation and reintegration of former combatants and associates into communities. As the head of internal security for Gombe State, which borders other states in the conflict-affected North-East region of Nigeria, Colonel Bello’s participation in the conference was directly related to his official duties focused on inter-agency collaboration and community safety.
The Commissioner’s driver sustained injuries in the crash and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Governor Muhammadu Yahaya mourned the deceased, describing him as a disciplined officer and dedicated public servant who brought his wealth of military experience, leadership, and patriotism into the service of Gombe State. Governor Yahaya added that the late Col. Abdullahi Bello (retd) will be remembered as a pillar of discipline, courage, and selfless service. He carried out his duties with unmatched diligence and a deep sense of responsibility.
The Governor also offered condolences to the family of the police orderly, Sergeant Hussaini, recognizing both men as patriots who died in active service to the state and the nation.
