An 18 year-old Nigerian teenager, Mohammed Aminu Sani, has set a national record by becoming Nigeria’s youngest commercial pilot. Sani achieved the feat by earning a United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Commercial Multi-Engine Pilot Licence after completing his training in Florida.
Sani completed the flight program at Phoenix East Aviation in Daytona Beach, Florida, one of America’s reputable aviation schools, in an accelerated 10-month period.
His multi-engine license allows him to operate complex aircraft, having logged over 30 hours of cross-country flight and dozens of hours on multi-engine models like the PA-34-200 Seneca.
An instructor at the academy praised Sani’s performance, stating;
Mohammed’s journey reflects the strength and potential of Nigerian youth. Completing this program without a single checkride failure shows remarkable professionalism for someone his age
While obtaining the license is a major milestone, Sani acknowledged it is a starting point towards achieving greater success;
My dream doesn’t end here… I want to keep flying higher, keep learning, and make Nigeria proud
Previous reported records for Nigeria’s youngest commercial pilot stood at 19 and 20 years old, making Sani the youngest.
