Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has categorically denied reports that he intends to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Governor Adeleke tagged the internal issues within the PDP as a “family affair” and affirmed his loyalty to the party ahead of its forthcoming national convention.
Governor Adeleke, a high-ranking member of the PDP, had been the subject of rumors linked to the APC, primarily because he maintains social relationships with members of the ruling party.
I’m a very civilised person. If I have friends in the APC and they invite me to a wedding or social function, I will attend. That doesn’t mean I’m joining them
Governor Adeleke states that his actions are a reflection of his professionalism and civility, arguing that social interactions should not be misinterpreted as political intention to abandon the opposition.
The defection rumor, was fueled by the current political environment in the country, where allegiance is highly transactional, and the ruling party often actively seeks to attract prominent opposition figures.
The governor’s declaration cements his position within the PDP as the party moves toward its November convention. The success of the party in resolving its “family affair” and projecting unity will be crucial in its ability to challenge the APC’s dominance at the national level.
