The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has donated ₦23 million to victims of the September 14 airstrike in Buhari community, Yunusari Local Government Area, Yobe State.
The attack, which mistakenly targeted civilians instead of ISWAP militants, killed eight people and injured 30 others. Air Marshal Hassan Bala Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff, stated that the jet was aimed at ISWAP members when the village was mistakenly struck.
The Air Component Commander of Joint Task Force North-East Operation Hadin Kai, represented by Air Commodore Umar U Idris, expressed deep regret over the incident and extended condolences to the families of the deceased and the injured. Each family of the deceased received ₦1 million, while the injured were given ₦500,000 each.
Beyond financial support, the NAF has initiated quick-impact projects in the Buhari community, including installing a solar-powered borehole to provide potable water. Additional projects are planned to create livelihood opportunities for affected residents.
The Special Advisor of the Governor of Yobe State on security Matters, Brigadier General Abdulsalam Dahiru (Rtd), praised the interventions of the Nigerian Air Force in supporting the affected community with adequate support, emphasizing that the incident was unintentional and a mistake during targeting.
The NAF’s projects aim to provide essential services and also to improve the living conditions of people residing in the Buhari community, while preventive measures are being reviewed to avoid future misfires.
