The Super Eagles of Nigeria have climbed four places to 41st in the latest FIFA Men’s World Rankings, published on Friday, marking a return to the top five football nations in Africa.
The team’s rise from 45th position was as a result of their strong performances at the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches. The three-time African champions secured wins against Lesotho (2–1) in Polokwane and Benin Republic (4–0) in Uyo. These victories not only earned ranking points but also confirmed Nigeria’s place in the continental playoffs for the World Cup.
Now set to face Gabon, ranked 77th globally and 15th in Africa, Nigeria has moved ahead of Ivory Coast, which now holds the 42nd spot worldwide.
Across Africa, Morocco remains the highest-ranked team despite slipping to 12th globally. Senegal (18th), Egypt (32nd), and Algeria (35th) round out Africa’s top four, with Nigeria firmly back in fifth place.
On the global stage, Spain leads the FIFA rankings, followed by Argentina and France.
