The Nigerian Army has launched an inquiry into the deaths of Lance Corporal Akenleye Femi and his wife, whose bodies were discovered in their apartment at Wawa Cantonment, Niger State, over the weekend.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, October 11, 2025, in Block 15, Room 24, of the Corporals and Below Quarters within the cantonment. According to Army officials, Lance Corporal Femi, who served with the 221 Battalion, was on duty in the barracks before seeking permission from his superiors to attend to a personal matter. Moments later, both he and his wife were found dead.
Captain Stephen Nwankwo, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 22 Armoured Brigade in Ilorin, confirmed the incident and stated that the circumstances surrounding the deaths are still unclear.
The Army has preserved the remains and deposited them at a morgue pending further forensic examination. One source, speaking anonymously, noted that Lance Corporal Femi had been known for his calm demeanor and dedication but had seemed withdrawn in recent weeks.
The military has cordoned off the area and restricted movement while the investigation continues to uncover the facts behind their death.
