Libyan police arrested two Nigerian nationals over the weekend for possession and intent to distribute hard drugs, including hashish and hallucinogenic pills, in the city of Zliten.

According to a report shared by Migrant Rescue Watch on social media, the arrests took place Sunday during a raid by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Zliten.

The suspects, whose names have not been disclosed, were found with large quantities of drugs believed to be prepared for commercial distribution.

Earlier this year, Libya’s Counter-Terrorism Forces detained two other Nigerians on similar charges, stressing the challenges in controlling drug smuggling networks in the region.
Those arrested have been handed over to Libya’s Anti-Narcotics Agency for further legal processing and possible prosecution, according to authorities.

The arrests stress the need for strengthened cooperation between Nigerian and Libyan law enforcement to tackle cross-border drug crimes. Officials have indicated ongoing investigations to dismantle related smuggling networks.
