Salis Manaja, a multimedia journalist with Image Merchants Promotion Limited, publishers of PRNigeria, was kidnapped by gunmen while travelling from Ebonyi State to Ilorin, Kwara State, for the company’s annual Young Communication Fellowship on Saturday, October 11, 2025.

‎Manaja’s colleagues raised the alarm after repeated attempts to reach him failed, with his phone line becoming unreachable. The journalist was reportedly abducted along an unspecified route, believed to be in Kogi State.

The fellowship is an annual programme held in various Nigerian cities including Kano, Abuja, and Ilorin, aimed at capacity building for young journalists and communicators.

The management of PRNigeria, led by Dahiru Muhammad-Lawal, Head of Innovation and Special Projects and fellowship coordinator, expressed devastation over the incident.

The abductors have contacted Manaja’s family, demanding ransom, though the amount has not been disclosed.
The incident calls for urgent action to protect Nigerians and ensure freedom for journalists carrying out their important work.
