Abdulrahaman Ahmad, son of renowned Islamic cleric Sheikh Abubakar Gumi, has successfully completed his training at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna.
The news was confirmed by former senator Shehu Sani via a post on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, where he shared a photo featuring Abdulrahaman alongside his father. In his message, Sani extended congratulations and wished the young officer success in his forthcoming military career.
Originally commissioned in 1964, the NDA remains the premier institution responsible for training officers destined for Nigeria’s Armed Forces. Sources close to the academy revealed that the picture circulating online was taken during a pre-commissioning event, with the main passing-out parade scheduled for September 27. Abdulrahaman’s father, a retired army captain, previously served with distinction in the Nigerian military.
Shehu Sani confirmed this on 𝕏 that Sheikh Gumi’s son Abdulrahaman Ahmad graduated from the NDA. He also extended his congratulatory message to him for his service to the nation.
Abdulrahaman Ahmad’s commissioning at the NDA adds to the Gumi family’s complex legacy within the nation’s security landscape due to Sheikh Gumi’s controversial role in negotiating with bandits in Nigeria.
