A fierce 15-hour firefight erupted between security forces and suspected secessionists at a camp in Awa, Orumba North, Anambra State, resulting in four fatalities. During the operation, an abducted individual was successfully rescued.

Personnel from the Rapid Response Squad stationed in Awkuzu, working alongside the Anambra State Vigilante Group, launched an assault on a hostile hideout allegedly used by separatist militants. After receiving credible intelligence, the joint team descended on the location in Orumba North, igniting an intense gun battle that lasted nearly two-thirds of a day.

Command spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga disclosed that several dangerous weapons and supplies were seized from the site. Among the items recovered were two pump-action shotguns, a homemade AK-47, a K2 assault rifle, a locally manufactured hunting firearm, communication equipment, and three makeshift explosive devices. They also found various personal belongings, vehicles including a black Lexus RX 350 and multiple Toyota Camrys, as well as mobile phones and everyday items used by the insurgents.

The police operation culminated in the neutralization of four militants. Additionally, rescuers freed a hostage who had been held captive despite a ransom payment of twenty million naira made by his relatives. The captors initially refused to release him until security forces intervened.

Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu reassured residents in Anambra that the force is dedicated to eliminating criminal threats from the region. He emphasized efforts to apprehend other fugitives and dismantle similar unlawful camps to restore peace and security.
