Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has launched an official investigation into the alleged involvement of the State Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi, in securing bail for a suspected drug kingpin, Sulaiman “Dan” Wawu.

The decision was made following growing public concern and outrage over reports linking the commissioner’s name to the suspect’s controversial release.

The governor’s action was conveyed through a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, on Saturday. According to the release, the matter is being treated with “the seriousness it deserves,” as the administration views any action that undermines the state’s fight against narcotics as unacceptable.

“To ensure a thorough and impartial inquiry,” the statement disclosed, “Governor Yusuf has constituted a special investigative committee to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and recommend appropriate measures.” The panel is expected to report its findings swiftly.

The committee is chaired by Aminu Hussain, Governor Yusuf’s Special Adviser on Justice and Constitutional Matters. Other members include prominent figures such as retired Major General Sani Muhammad, legal and civil society experts, and Hajiya Bilkisu Maimota, who will serve as the secretary of the panel.

While inaugurating the committee, Governor Yusuf voiced serious concern over what appears to be the misuse of public office, vowing that anyone found guilty would not be spared. “Let it be known that our administration will not condone any act that compromises the safety and wellbeing of our citizens,” he said.

The administration reiterated its zero-tolerance approach to drug-related crimes, emphasizing that the fight against drug trafficking remains a top priority. “Regardless of status or title, anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law,” the governor warned.

As of the time of reporting, Commissioner Ibrahim Namadi had not issued a public statement in response to the allegations. However, the formation of the probe panel signals the state government’s intent to act decisively and transparently.

Sulaiman Dan Wawu, the suspect at the heart of the scandal, was reportedly arrested on narcotics trafficking charges but was later released under questionable circumstances.
His release has sparked widespread concern at a time when Kano State is intensifying its campaign against drug abuse, especially among young people, whom the governor has identified as the most vulnerable group.
