Operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command have arrested six suspected kidnappers in separate operations and recovered a cache of firearms, including AK-47 rifles, from their hideouts in Jema’a Local Government Area and in transit to Zamfara State.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, said the arrests followed a report made on February 22, 2025, by a resident of Ungwan Ninzom, Jagindi Tasha village in Jema’a LGA. The resident reported that gunmen had invaded his home and abducted his son, identified as Hussaini Ibrahim.

“Upon receiving the distress call at about 12:53hrs, operatives were immediately mobilized to the scene but the suspects initially evaded arrest,” the police spokesperson said.

A follow-up operation on February 24 led to the successful rescue of the victim from a nearby bush, saying he was found with a gunshot wound on his leg, inflicted by the abductors. Police said the victim received prompt medical attention and has since been reunited with his family.

Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of four suspects, identified as:

Umar Yusuf Jabiri (30), of Jagindi Tasha, Buhari Muhammad a.k.a “General” (31), of Bayya village, Ahmadu Nasiru (51), of Gidan Waya, Zakari Saleh (50), also of Gidan Waya

Items recovered from the suspects include:
One (1) English-type AK-47 rifle and three (3) fabricated AK-47 rifles

The Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang, and all arrested suspects will be prosecuted accordingly.

In a separate operation on July 23, 2025, the police intercepted a suspicious waybill during a stop-and-search operation led by CSP Sani Zuntu, Officer-in-Charge of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. Acting on credible intelligence, detectives intercepted a consignment from Jos en route Gusau, Zamfara State, which contained a locally fabricated AK-47 rifle hidden in a sack.

A swift follow-up led to the arrest of two suspects in Gusau who were awaiting delivery of the illegal firearm. The suspects have been identified as:
Abdulmumin Sani and Naziru Musa

The police said investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of inquiries.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, CP Rabiu Muhammad, commended the professionalism and gallantry of the officers involved in the operations.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements and warned that “criminals have no hiding place in Kaduna.”

CP Muhammad also appreciated the continued support of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for his encouragement and leadership in the fight against crime nationwide.
