The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismantled an internet fraud training hub in Umuahia, Abia State, arresting 23 suspects in the process.
The centre, nicknamed “Yahoo-Yahoo Hustle Kingdom,” was allegedly used to groom young individuals in cybercrime techniques.
According to a statement released on Friday, July 18, 2025, by the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the EFCC, the training centre was situated in the Doofco Palace building, located behind Government College, Umuahia. The operation, prompted by credible intelligence, led to the arrest of eight trainees and fifteen other suspected fraudsters.
The EFCC identified some of the suspects caught at the training centre as Toona Henry, Tavershima Solomon, Chi Orseer James, Ubee Benjamin, Gabriel Ibe Ifeanyi, Tindue Godwin, Muhammed Terwase Micheal, and Destiny Andrew. “They were apprehended while undergoing active cybercrime training,” the anti-graft agency disclosed.
In coordinated raids across other parts of Umuahia—specifically Umudike, Ahiaeke, and Umugu—additional suspects were taken into custody. Those arrested in these locations include Okezie Almond, Precious Osmond, Kenneth Prospect, Iweobi Chika Augustine, and 11 others.
During the operation, the EFCC recovered several items allegedly linked to fraudulent activities, including two vehicles, 15 laptops, and 34 mobile phones. The agency noted that these items are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
The commission affirmed that all suspects will face prosecution once preliminary investigations are concluded. “They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are finalized,” the EFCC concluded in its statement.
