Authorities in Kano State have detained 11 students from Government Boarding Secondary School, Bichi, in connection with the violent deaths of two of their schoolmates.

The tragic incident has sparked widespread concern over student safety in boarding schools.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna, stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of each suspect’s involvement. “Eleven students were arrested over the incident and the investigation is ongoing to find out the level of their individual involvement,” he said.

The victims, identified as Hamza Idris Tofawa and Umar Yusuf Dungurawa, reportedly died after being assaulted with locally made iron tools known as “Gwale-Gwale.” The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, but the police have pledged to uncover the truth and bring justice.

In response to the tragedy, the Kano State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Makoda, has ordered a full-scale probe. The directive was issued through the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Bashir Bappa Mohammad, during an official visit to the school.

Police have assured the public that no effort will be spared in resolving the case. “We are committed to ensuring justice for the deceased and holding all responsible parties accountable,” Haruna emphasized.
