Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have arrested a suspected kidnapper believed to be responsible for multiple abductions along the Jos–Makurdi Road. The arrest occurred at Wamba–Agameti in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
According to a statement issued in Jos by OPSH media and information officer, Major Samson Zhakom, the arrest took place during a routine security operation under Operation Lafiyan Jama’a. Troops had mounted a snap checkpoint when they intercepted a Volkswagen vehicle with registration number JJN 336 YZ, carrying three occupants.
Two of the suspects reportedly jumped out of the vehicle and fled the scene before reaching the checkpoint.
“The vigilant troops discovered bullet holes and blood stains on the vehicle while the criminals attempted to induce troops with monetary gratification which was blatantly refused,” said Major Zhakom.
Troops proceeded to arrest the remaining suspect and conducted a detailed search of both the individual and the vehicle. During the search, they recovered “two AK-47 rifles, two AK-47 magazines, 30 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, three mobile phones and one knife, among others.”
Major Zhakom revealed that “during interrogation, the man confessed being responsible for kidnapping activities along Jos–Makurdi road and agreed to lead troops to their hideout.”
The suspect’s cooperation has since assisted the military in tracking down further members of the criminal gang.
The OPSH spokesperson affirmed the troops’ commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region. “The troops would remain committed to the responsibilities of protecting human lives and tracking down criminal elements,” he stated.
Operation Safe Haven urged residents to support security efforts by remaining vigilant and providing actionable intelligence, as military operations continue in high-risk areas across the region.
