A Ghanaian woman, Freda Arnong, was killed by a notorious ‘One Chance’ taxi robbery syndicate in Abuja on July 1, 2025, prompting her brother, Arnold Arnong, to demand justice and systemic reforms.

Freda, a resident of Pope John Paul Street, boarded a taxi around 7:00 p.m. along Transcorp Hilton Road after attending a house fellowship near the CBN Institute in Maitama. Unaware it was a ‘One Chance’ vehicle, she was blindfolded, beaten, and robbed, according to Arnold’s Facebook post.

The attackers demanded access to Freda’s phone and bank app, but she was not tech-savvy and had misplaced her ATM card. Frustrated, they brutalized her for hours, drove her around the city, and dumped her near Moshood Abiola Stadium around 11:00 p.m., refusing her offer to arrange a N10 million transfer.

Abandoned and severely injured, Freda tried to flag down vehicles for help but was ignored until a local vigilance team member rescued her and rushed her to National Hospital. Medical scans revealed broken ribs, lung lacerations, kidney damage, internal bleeding, and injuries to her eyes and heart. She died at 3:00 a.m. on July 7, 2025.

Arnold called for a driver and vehicle authentication system to enhance transport safety, urging authorities to prosecute Freda’s killers and end the ‘One Chance’ menace. “Her only ‘crime’ was living in a beautiful city plagued by a broken system,” he said, demanding change to prevent further losses.
