Charles Oputa, known as CharlyBoy, launched a prostate cancer screening campaign through his foundation in Abuja on Saturday, aiming to educate Nigerian men about prostate health and promote early detection.
The CharlyBoy Foundation’s initiative focuses on men’s health, addressing mental well-being, diabetes, and prostate issues. Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria, the 70-year-old entertainer, a prostate cancer survivor, emphasized the need to break the silence around men’s health, noting many die due to stigma and neglect.
The campaign includes mobile screening outreaches in rural areas, public awareness events, and partnerships with labs to provide accessible testing. CharlyBoy urged men to prioritize regular checkups, sharing his survival story to inspire action and reduce stigma surrounding prostate cancer.
Dr. Doris Udenzi-Davis, CEO of the CharlyBoy Foundation, revealed that over 500 men have benefited from free screenings. The foundation collaborates with healthcare providers and community groups to offer tests and refer patients to urologists, though funding limits treatment support.
CharlyBoy and Udenzi-Davis called for donations and volunteers to expand the campaign nationwide.
They urged Nigerians, including government agencies, to support the initiative through financial contributions or partnerships to enhance outreach and save lives.
