The Federal Government rewarded 18 civil servants with SUVs, laptops, and cash prizes on Saturday in Abuja, recognizing their impactful contributions to public service reform, the Head of the Civil Service announced.
At the 2025 Civil Service Awards Night, Head of Service Didi Walson-Jack honored the awardees for their excellence, integrity, and discipline. Dr. Bahijjatu Hadiza from the Federal Ministry of Environment won the presidential star prize, including an SUV, laptop, and foreign training. Chukwudi Ekwenugo from the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy received an SUV, N500,000, and other prizes.
Other awardees received cash prizes from N250,000 to N500,000 and laptops. Walson-Jack urged other civil servants to remain dedicated, assuring them that consistent excellence would be recognized. She criticized some ministries for failing to nominate or submitting unqualified candidates, demanding better compliance in future awards.
The ceremony followed the International Civil Service Conference at Eagle Square, attended by over 5,000 global delegates to discuss public sector innovations. Walson-Jack emphasized the awards as a permanent fixture to celebrate unsung civil servants, crediting President Bola Tinubu’s support for reforms like digitization and the new minimum wage.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, representing Tinubu, praised civil servants as governance’s backbone, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to fostering merit and innovation. Walson-Jack stressed punctuality, urging civil servants to resume by 8:00 am to reflect respect for the system and citizens.
