Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of renowned Nigerian industrialist and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Dantata. The nonagenarian, who died at the age of 94, was widely respected for his business acumen and lifelong commitment to philanthropy and national development.
In a heartfelt message, Governor Sanwo-Olu referred to Dantata’s death as a significant national loss, particularly for the Dantata family and the people of Kano State. He acknowledged the elder statesman’s lifelong service to Nigeria, describing him as a patriotic figure who dedicated his resources to uplifting communities and empowering individuals across the country.
“Alhaji Dantata was a patriot, an accomplished businessman, elder statesman, and philanthropist who made positive impacts and touched many lives directly and indirectly during his lifetime,” Sanwo-Olu said in his condolence statement.
The governor also extended his sympathy to the entire Dantata family, singling out Alhaji Aliko Dangote, president of the Dangote Group, who is a nephew of the deceased. Sanwo-Olu conveyed his condolences, recognizing the deep personal loss the family and its extended members must be experiencing.
In his message, the governor included a note of sympathy to Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the people of Kano, referring to Dantata as one of the state’s most illustrious sons. He praised the businessman’s legacy of generosity and his unwavering commitment to development within and beyond the state.
The tribute was conveyed through a statement issued by Mr. Gboyega Akosile, Sanwo-Olu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity. “On behalf of the government and the people of Lagos State, I mourn the passing of prominent businessman and the scion of the Dantata family, Alhaji Aminu Dantata,” the statement read.
Governor Sanwo-Olu concluded by highlighting Dantata’s philanthropic legacy, stating, “He was one of the successful businessmen and philanthropists in Nigeria who used their God-given wealth and influence to make positive impact on many generations of Nigerian families.”
