NAPTIP has declared Nigerian entertainer Darlington Okoye, known as Speed Darlington, wanted for alleged rape, cyberbullying, and cyberstalking, urging the public to provide information on his whereabouts.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) announced via its Instagram handle, that Okoye is wanted following his failure to honor multiple invitations for questioning. The agency is investigating claims made by Okoye in a viral Instagram video, where he admitted to engaging in sexual acts with a 15-year-old girl. NAPTIP issued a summon on May 28, 2025, requesting his appearance on May 30, but Okoye did not comply.
Okoye responded to NAPTIP, requesting a rescheduled date of June 26, citing prior commitments. However, he failed to appear on that date and again on June 2, despite NAPTIP emphasizing the urgency of the matter. The agency, led by Director-General Binta Bello, stressed that the issue involves serious allegations of statutory rape and violations under the Trafficking in Persons Act and Cybercrime Act.
Public outrage erupted after Okoye’s livestream on Children’s Day, where he claimed to have slept with a minor, prompting the Lagos State government to report the matter to NAPTIP. Okoye later called the statement a publicity stunt, but critics, including women’s rights groups, condemned his remarks. Isaac Fayose, brother of former Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose, noted that the alleged victim plans to file a police complaint.
NAPTIP is collaborating with law enforcement to ensure Okoye’s appearance, with Chief Press Officer Vincent Adekoye affirming the agency’s proactive stance. The agency is reviewing Okoye’s responses to determine further legal actions, emphasizing that no one is above the law in this matter of national importance.
