Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has cast doubt on the sustainability of the recent peace accord brokered between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
The truce, initiated by President Bola Tinubu to resolve the prolonged political crisis in Rivers State, included the involvement of the state’s House of Assembly leadership and took place during a high-level meeting on Thursday night.
While the meeting reportedly ended the standoff among the key political figures, Adeyanju remains skeptical about the durability of the resolution. Posting on his official Facebook page, he cautioned Governor Fubara to remain vigilant, expressing concerns that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, might still act in ways that could destabilize Fubara’s administration.
“No matter the agreement you have with Wike, he will make your life miserable. Wike is an unreasonable man,” Adeyanju wrote. He warned that Governor Fubara may find it difficult to govern peacefully, especially as the next election cycle approaches, hinting at possible political sabotage ahead of 2027.
In a biting remark, Adeyanju added, “Even when Wike makes a vow, his vow is as useless as the T in buffet.” His comments highlight lingering mistrust in Rivers State politics, despite federal efforts to mediate and restore harmony within the state’s leadership.
