Barcelona will make a symbolic return to Camp Nou on August 10 for the Joan Gamper Trophy, marking the first match at the venue since extensive renovation work began.

The friendly fixture serves as a partial reopening of the iconic stadium, which has undergone major upgrades since 2023.

The club emphasized the emotional weight of the occasion, stating, “Barcelona takes a symbolic and emotional step into the future, reclaiming its home in a new era.” Despite the celebration, work on various parts of the stadium will continue beyond the August event.

Ongoing renovations include the new third tier, a dual VIP ring, the stadium’s roof, and enhancements to interior spaces and surrounding infrastructure. Though Barcelona has yet to confirm the stadium’s current capacity, reports indicate around 35,000 fans will be able to attend the match.

To allow more time for construction, the club has requested to play its first three La Liga fixtures of the upcoming season away from home. This measure gives builders an extra month to advance the stadium’s completion.

The redevelopment project, branded “Espai Barca,” aims to transform the Camp Nou into a state-of-the-art venue with a final capacity of 105,000. The full completion is projected for the summer of 2026, following multiple delays.

During renovations, Barcelona played home matches at the Montjuic Olympic Stadium, a significantly smaller venue. The upcoming Gamper Trophy will be the club’s first official return to their historic home ground.
