The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has summoned Air Peace Limited’s management to address widespread passenger complaints about non-refunded ticket fares, even for airline-cancelled flights, by June 23, 2025.

In a notice dated June 13, 2025, the FCCPC ordered Air Peace to appear at its Abuja headquarters, citing violations of Sections 130(1)(a), (b), and 130(2)(b) of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act 2018, which ensure consumers’ rights to prompt refunds when services fail. The summons, issued under Sections 32 and 33, requires Air Peace to submit a 12-month complaint log, records of processed refunds, a list of cancelled flights, and measures to mitigate passenger hardship.

The FCCPC’s action follows public outcry, including a dispute involving Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who alleged extortion by Air Peace staff after missing a flight. Oshiomhole claimed staff demanded N109,100 to reschedule him and 20-30 other passengers, prioritizing later arrivals. Air Peace attributed the issue to Oshiomhole’s late arrival, but the FCCPC views these practices as unfair and potentially unlawful.

Director of Corporate Affairs Ondaje Ijagwu emphasized that non-compliance with the summons could lead to severe sanctions, including fines or imprisonment. The FCCPC’s probe aims to enforce fair dealing and protect consumers from unjust practices by service providers like Air Peace.
