Chairman of CAN Plateau, Rev. Fr. Polycarp Lubo, Dies After Brief Illness

Fr. Lubo died in the early hours of Sunday, June 15, 2025, at an undisclosed hospital in Jos, following a brief illness. His health had reportedly deteriorated after he was involved in an accident last week.

His death was confirmed to our correspondent on Sunday by multiple sources in Jos. The Catholic Archdiocese of Jos also announced his passing in an official condolence statement signed by its Archdiocesan Chancellor, Rev. Fr. Daniel Gyang.

The statement, titled “Obituary Announcement”, reads in part:

“On a sad note but with total submission to the will of God, we hereby announce the passing unto eternal glory of Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Polycarp Lubo, who passed on to eternal glory in the wee hours of the morning of Sunday 15th June, 2025.
The Archbishop condoles with his immediate family, CAN Plateau State Chapter, the presbyterium of Jos, the parishioners of St. William’s Parish, Zawan where he was Parish Priest and Dean of Zawan Deanery, and indeed all the Religious and lay faithful of the Archdiocese.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.”

Fr. Lubo was widely respected for his leadership within CAN and his service as Parish Priest of St. William’s Parish, Zawan, and Dean of Zawan Deanery. His passing has drawn tributes from religious leaders, colleagues, and members of the Christian community in Plateau State.
