The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) called off strike set to begin on Monday as National Judicial Council (NJC), the Federal High Court (FHC) and Judiciary workers under the Supreme Court pull out.
The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria formerly directed all union members to withdraw after Danladi Nda led 12 principal officers to sign a communique stating the misplaced priority and futility of the strike.
The judicial workers withdrew after assurance from Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). They confirmed the resolve after the CJN submitted their demand to the presidency. “Lower sister courts’ position on the planned nationwide strike cannot be managed by us in the Supreme Court as it will put the CJN’s efforts in vain, jeopardy and swept under the carpet.”
The NJC released a statement by the public relations officer (PRO), Joel Ebiloma who hunted at a two-week grace period to authorities to meet their demand and ensure the Accountant-General of the Federation releases statutory allocations to the Judiciary for 2025, covering the Wage Award arrears, minimum wage, and 25% and 35% salary increases as outlined in the Appropriation.
