Atiku’s 2027 coalition denied adopting the ADC or appointing Salihu Lukman as secretariat head, calling reports false as negotiations continue.
The leadership of the Atiku Abubakar-led 2027 National Coalition refuted claims on Thursday, May 22, 2025, that it had adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform or appointed former APC Vice Chairman Salihu Lukman to head its secretariat. The statement, issued by Lukman in Abuja, addressed a misleading Vanguard report.
Lukman clarified, “No such decision has been taken,” urging the public to disregard the story. He emphasized that negotiations among coalition leaders, including Atiku, are progressing well, with final decisions on the 2027 election platform still pending. The coalition, formed in March, aims to challenge President Bola Tinubu.
The denial follows reports alleging the ADC’s adoption and Lukman’s appointment after a supposed Tuesday meeting. Lukman accused “mischief makers” of planting false stories to sow discord among coalition members.
The coalition’s ongoing talks have sparked public interest, with Nigerians awaiting a formal announcement on its structure and platform as 2027 approaches.
