A Federal High Court in Abuja has nullified the recognition of the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, as the All Progressives Congress candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District in the upcoming 2027 general elections, declaring former Governor Rochas Okorocha as the lawful winner of the party’s primary election.

Reacting to the development, the former governor commended the ruling as a decision that validates the will of the people.

Okorocha in a press statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media, Sam Onwuemodo, expressed gratitude to the residents of Imo West Senatorial District for their unwavering moral support and spontaneous celebrations following the verdict;

“This judgment, to say the least, is a resounding victory for the nation’s judiciary. It is a victory for the nation’s fast-growing democracy. It is an outstanding victory for the nation’s Constitution, as amended.”

He commended the APC leadership for permitting party members to pursue their legitimate aspirations within the ambit of the law.

Okorocha acknowledged Governor Uzodimma’s participation in the legal dispute as a co-respondent. He stated that the governor’s involvement in the proceedings formed a critical component of what he described as a judgment for posterity.

Okorocha lauded President Bola Tinubu for providing an enabling environment that allows the judiciary and other democratic institutions to discharge their duties without interference.
