A Federal High Court in Abuja has sacked the Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, as the senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Imo West Senatorial District.
The court issued a declarative order directing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to strike out the governor’s name from its electoral register.
Delivering the judgement on Thursday, the presiding judge, Justice Obiora Egwuatu, ordered the electoral body to replace Uzodinma with a former governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha.
Justice Egwuatu ruled that Governor Uzodinma did not win the party’s primary election conducted on May 18, which was closely monitored by INEC officials.
Upon evaluating the evidence presented before the court, the judge established that Okorocha secured the majority of the lawful votes cast during the poll.
The court recognised Okorocha as the rightful winner of the disputed primary election.
The presiding judge subsequently issued a mandatory injunction directing the national leadership of the APC to immediately forward Okorocha’s name to INEC as the authentic candidate representing the party in the upcoming 2027 general elections.
The judicial directive comes ahead of the presidential, senatorial, and House of Representatives elections officially slated for January 16, 2027.
