The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, on Wednesday during a radio interview in Plateau State, while speaking on the current state of politics in the APC stated that the ruling party operates on a centralized national structure that prevents any individual, including state governors, from exercising ultimate control.

‎Yilwatda emphasized that the direction of the party is dictated by institutional structure rather than personal influence.

‎No local government chairman has control over APC. No governor has control over APC. No senator or individual has control over APC… For anything you are going to do at the state level, it is planned at the National level – Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda

‎According to Yilwatda, the APC’s operational model ensures that state-level activities are planned and sanctioned at the National Headquarters in Abuja. This approach is intended to curb the influence of state governors, who have previously wielded power over party structures within their respective domains.

‎Yilwatda also claims that the APC has returned ownership of the party to its general membership, by removing the traditional Board of Trustees (BoT), a body of elite power brokers. He added that even his own office does not hold absolute power.

‎People are the trustees of APC. Unlike other political parties where you have some people controlling and having structures of the party in their hands…as a party chairman, there is no board of trustees supervising me – Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda

‎The chairman concluded stating that the party functions through an established organizational hierarchy rather than through emotions or sentiments of its high-ranking members.
