Operatives of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) have thwarted an attempt by two young men to smuggle narcotics to inmates within the premises of a Kano magistrate court.

‎The suspects were intercepted at the Nomansland Magistrate Court in Kano while attempting to bypass standby security officers to deliver a package of Indian hemp (cannabis) and other controlled substances to detainees.

‎Security personnel attached to Goron Dutse Medium Security Custodial Centre witnessed the suspects when they were attempting to throw the illicit items into the inmate holding area. Both individuals, Usman Khalid, 25, and Bello Musa Ahmed, 24, identified as residents of the Brigade area of Kano, were immediately taken into custody.

‎The Controller of Corrections has since ordered the transfer of the case to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for formal prosecution.

The command remains committed to rehabilitating and reforming inmates and will not tolerate attempts to undermine this mandate… such actions pose a serious security breach and are punishable by law – CSC Musbahu Lawan Kofar Nasarawa, NCoS Public Relations Officer

The NCoS has emphasized that court premises are considered an extension of the custodial environment, meaning smuggling attempts carry the same severe penalties as jailbreak assistance.
