The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has confirmed a mob attack on its outpost in Danmaje, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday night, resulted in the killing of three suspects and the total destruction of the NSCDC facility by fire, just 24 hours, where another NSCDC outpost was razed and three people were killed after a clash over a suspected drug peddler in Katsina State.

The crisis began at 10:30 PM and escalated before security reinforcements could arrive.

Residents of Yansango community apprehended three unidentified men suspected of being motorcycle thieves. The suspects were brought to the Danmaje outpost for a handover to the authorities.

Before an investigation could start, a massive crowd from the youths of Madinawa, Gagarawa, and Gurjiya, surrounded the building, demanding the suspects be released for jungle justice.

The mob overpowered the officers, broke into the facility, and set the building ablaze. The three suspects were lynched and their bodies burned inside the facility.

While the suspects did not survive the encounter, the personnel on duty faced serious peril.

The Kano State NSCDC spokesperson, SC Ibrahim Abdullahi, condemned the act, emphasizing that jungle justice undermines the rule of law.

The State Commandant, Mohammed Agalama, has established a committee of inquiry to conduct a proper investigation about the failure to protect the facility and to identify the ringleaders of the mob.

The NSCDC appealed to residents to remain peaceful and avoid taking the law into their own hands, due to the risks of killing innocent persons based on unverified allegations.
