Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has filed a N200 billion defamation lawsuit against fellow Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over allegations of sexual harassment.
The Senate President is seeking the substantial sum in damages over the claims first raised by the Kogi Central Senator earlier this year.

The legal action emanated from a political conflict that became public in February 2025, initially caused by a dispute over the reassignment of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s seat during a plenary session.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan later publicly accused Akpabio of harassment, claiming her refusal to yield to his demands resulted in a series of unprovoked and unprecedented attacks on her person. Akpabio has consistently denied these allegations. This made the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges recommend her six-month suspension, which was later implored to be reversed by the Federal High Court in July 2025.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan welcomed the defamation suit, arguing it now provides her with the chance to prove her allegations in court, a platform she claims the Senate’s Ethics Committee previously denied her because of a separate, related court case instituted by Akpabio’s wife.
Now, I am glad that Sen. Akpabio has brought this up because the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges failed to grant me audience in this issue… Alas, I now have a chance to prove how I was sexually harassed… See you in court Godswill Akpabio – Senator Natasha
