The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out the eight-count criminal charge filed by the Federal Government against the alleged fake Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, Adeniyi Adeyemi.
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar terminated the proceedings on Monday following an application by the Federal Government to transfer the 38-year-old defendant to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory for a fresh trial.
The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), explained that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice reviewed the case file initially prepared by the Inspector-General of Police and identified legal loopholes.
Oyedepo informed the court that the documents allegedly forged by Adeyemi while operating the purported presidential agency fall under offences that must be prosecuted before the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.
The Attorney-General of the Federation directed the withdrawal after identifying jurisdictional issues to pave the way for a fresh arraignment at the FCT High Court.
“The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice reviewed Adeyemi’s case file and the charge initially filed by the Inspector-General of Police, identifying some loopholes. A fresh charge has been filed before the FCT High Court, and he will be arraigned afresh without delay.”
Defence counsel to Adeyemi, Ibrahim Angulu (SAN), did not oppose the prosecution’s application, which led Justice Umar to strike out the charge.
Adeyemi was being tried alongside two fleeing accomplices, identified simply as Femi and Anu, in suit FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025 on charges bordering on criminal conspiracy and document forgery.
