The Nigerian military has neutralised over 40 fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), including a prominent commander, during a precision airstrike in Borno State.

The Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai executed the aerial bombardment at the terrorists’ enclave in Badu Village, Guzamala Local Government Area, on October 10, targeting the insurgents as they prepared to launch attacks on troops operating within the Sector 3 area.

The military launched the precision aerial bombardment to pre-empt a coordinated offensive by the insurgents against troops in the Lake Chad region.

During the joint operations, the superior firepower of the military completely destroyed two vehicles and approximately 20 motorcycles used by the terrorists for logistics and mobility.

According to the PUNCH, the neutralized terrorists were from Murabitun unit of the ISWAP, a specialised mobile squad responsible for coordinating deadly attacks.

The Acting Military Information Officer for the Northeast Joint Task Force, Captain Mohammed Goni, described the destruction of the assets as a setback for the terrorists, stressing that the airstrike degraded their fighting capability and disrupted planned attacks on military base and surrounding communities.
