The Niger State Police Command has apprehended three suspects in connection with the murder of a 65-year-old woman accused of witchcraft.
The prime suspect, 35-year-old Mohammed Sani from Kebbi State, allegedly trespassed into the residence of the victim, Tani Nuhu, in Kokolo village and hacked her to death on October 3.
Investigation by the police led to the arrest of his accomplices, 65-year-old Isa Lamaran and Abdullahi Hamidu, while the fourth suspect, Rufa’i Gado, remains at large.
During interrogation, Sani confessed that he was contracted by the other suspects to eliminate three elderly women in the area. He admitted that Lamaran provided the murder weapon, while Hamidu promised him two plots of land and his daughter’s hand in marriage if the operation was successful.
The Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, disclosed that detectives from the Nasko Division were deployed to the crime scene immediately after receiving the call.
The police spokesperson also confirmed that Sani, after killing Nuhu, injured another victim before his arrest.
The command assured the public that investigations are ongoing to track down the suspect who is currently at large.
The arrested individuals are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna and will be arraigned in court for criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, and causing inflicting harm on people.
