Armed bandits attacked the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS) in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, early Monday morning.
The attack resulted in the death of the school’s Vice-Principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, and the abduction of an undisclosed, but significant, number of female students. Initial police reports, according to a source, state that 25 numbers of students were abducted
According to a resident, Aliyu Yakubu, the bandits invaded the school around 5:00 a.m. on Monday, operating without resistance. The Vice-Principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku, was reportedly shot and killed as he attempted to protect the students;
He was shot as he tried to protect his students from being taken by the bandits. It’s a great loss for the community and the school
The Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, later confirmed the incident, with one source quoting him as stating that 25 students were abducted. The Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Umar Tafida, has been dispatched to the school to assess the situation on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris, who is currently out of the state.
The Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area, where the school is located, sits near the border with Zamfara State and has been a frequent target for banditry and mass abductions, with police reporting previous successes in rescuing kidnap victims in the area earlier in November 2025. The Police urged parents, concerned groups and the school management to remain calm, as investigation aimed at bringing back the abducted girls to their ward is currently underway.
