Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has formally announced his impending defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Kefas confirmed the decision during a press briefing in Jalingo, stating the official move will take place on Wednesday. Governor Kefas explicitly stated the decision was non-conditional and it focused on state interests;
I will officially transition from the PDP to the APC on November 19. This movement is about the destiny and future of the people of Taraba
The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Muslim Aruwa, confirmed on behalf of the cabinet that they would support the Governor by defecting alongside him;
The governor is our leader. Wherever he goes, we go with him
Governor Kefas was one of the three PDP governors who reportedly shunned the Ibadan convention, which was as a result to their dissatisfaction with the direction of the party. The defection tends to shift the political balance in the Northeast geopolitical zone, giving the APC control of another state in the region and strengthening its national political apparatus ahead of 2027 general elections.
